KGL Contest Overview

Contest Guidelines

  • Register candidates for Stage 1 at their current level only.

  • Your KGL Country Partner will inform you of the venue and times for Stage 1

  • Stage 1 consists of multiple choice questions and participants have 60 minutes to complete the test (Pre-A1 45 minutes).

  • Results for Stage 1 are issued approximately 15 days following the receipt of the answer sheets from your KGL Country Partner.

  • Stage 2 consists of a multiple choice test, listening reading and writing. Timings for Stage 2 are as follows: 

Pre-A1 60 minutes

A1 – 75 minutes

A2 – 80 minutes

B1 – 80 minutes

B2 – 90 minutes.

  • The names of the winners 1st, 2nd, 3rd place and commended contestants are announced following stage 2.

  • NO ADDITIONAL RESULTS ARE ISSUED FOR STAGE 2

  • Eligible national finalist join the winners from other countries for a three day event and participate in the Global Winner contest. The contest is only open to finalists, teachers and KGL Country Partners. No other persons may participate in the Global Event.

  • The Global winner is selected on the basis of performance in a test, and a written task and is awarded a monetary prizes which should be used for educational purposes

  • Prizes are awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place contestants at each level based on overall performance in the Global Event test.

KGL Contest Overview

Put your English skills to the test and stand a chance to be recognized on a global scale!

The KGL Contest English Olympiad is your opportunity to shine. Here’s what you need to know.

1. Registration and Rules

Before you dive in, make sure to read the Rules and Regulations of the KGL Contest carefully (link). When registering, remember you must select the level that corresponds to your current English proficiency. Failure to register at the appropriate level will result in disqualification. Test your current level with the help of our online practice tests available here (this link)

2. Stage 1

In Stage 1, you’ll tackle multiple-choice questions. Depending on your level, you’ll have either 45 or 60 minutes to complete the test. Your KGL Country Partner will inform you of the venue and timing for Stage 1. Expect the results for Stage 1 to be issued approximately within a month of the test.

3. Stage 2

Stage 2 is a more comprehensive challenge. It includes multiple-choice, listening, reading, and writing. The duration of Stage 2 varies based on your level, ranging from 60 to 90 minutes.

4. Selection of Global Event Finalists

The top performers – 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place contestants, along with commended participants, will be announced after Stage 2.

Stage 2 first place finalists at levels A1, A2, B1 and B2 must take an online level verification test to confirm their level and results. This verification test will be conducted and monitored by ITA-KGL.

5. Qualifying for the Global Event

Eligible verified finalists who have finalized their travel arrangements, (including obtaining a visa if necessary) and have informed us of this  by 12:00 noon GMT on September 2, 2024, will receive final confirmation of their participation at the Global Event.  During this event, they will have the unique opportunity to enter for the Global Winner contest, uniting with contestants from across the world. Please note that this exclusive event is reserved solely for verified finalists, teachers, and KGL Country Partners.

6. National Prizes

National Prizes are awarded to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place contestants at each level by the KGL Country Partner.

Global Event Prizes

Prizes at the Global Event are awarded to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place contestants at each level. Ranking is determined by their overall performance in the Global Event test. Stage 1:

A1, A2, B1, and B2 Levels: 60 minutes

Pre-A1 Level: 45 Minutes

Stage 2:

Pre-A1 Level: 60 minutes

A1 Level: 75 minutes

A2 Level: 80 minutes

B1 Level: 80 minutes

B2 Level: 90 minutes
