It is a condition of entry of this contest that all entrants agree to these rules. By permitting their children to enter the contest parents and guardians shall be deemed to consent to the entries being submitted on the terms of these rules.
The contest is open to entrants between the ages up to 17 who are learning English as a foreign language. The contest is not open to native speakers Contestants must participate at their current level and meet the age requirements for that level. They cannot participate at a level for which they are already certified. Contestants who participated in a previous KGL Contest cannot participate at the same level in any future contest. In order for a winning school to be eligible to attend the Global Event a minimum of 10 entries is required in stage 1.
Prizes will be awarded to the winners and runners-up in each category and there will be 'Commended' certificates awarded in each age group for high performing participants.
There is no Pre-A1 Global Event category and finalists at Pre-A1 are unable to participate in the Global Event. Pre-A1 finalists are awarded local prizes.
All finalists travelling abroad to participate in the Global Winner contest must be accompanied by their teacher or a school representative. No other persons may accompany finalists. To ensure similar conditions for all finalists participating in the Global Event, NO PARENTS OR GUARDIANS ARE PERMITTED TO ATTEND. Attendance is only open to finalists, their teachers and KGL Country representatives.
Entries can be submitted via the procedures outlined on the KGL Partner websites.
The decisions of KGL on all matters relating to the competition is final. No correspondence will be entered into concerning the judgment, administration or organization of the competition, including any assessment of the eligibility of any entry submitted.
All contestants participating in Stage 1 of the KGL Contest receive an overall score based on the answers provided on the answer sheet. All stage 1 contestant answer sheets are marked electronically. No additional feedback on marks awarded is possible.
Stage 2 answer sheets are marked electronically. The writing task – for contestants with equal scoring and high performers-is marked by trained assessors. The selection of the winners in Stage 2 is based on the combination of answers provided on the answer sheet and the writing task. The writing task is only marked in cases of equal scoring and contestants with high performance. In case of equal scoring overall, the place is awarded to the younger of the qualifying contestants.
Schools and participants will have access to results of stage 1 approximately one month after the test. No analytical results will be available for stage 2 and the names of winners are announced approximately one month following stage 2. Requests for report on individual contestants performance can be issued following payment of the administration charge (35€).
The list of students progressing to Stage 2 of the contest will be announced following stage 1 of the competition.
It is a condition of entry to the contest that entrants (or the parents or guardians of entrants) irrevocably permit the publication of the names of winners and any photographs of award ceremonies as appropriate.
The closing date for entries to the contest is announced at least 3 months in advance.
No responsibility will be accepted by the KGL for entries which are lost, late, corrupted, incomplete, illegible or otherwise do not comply with these rules Schools and participants are required to contact the KGL country partner if they have not received acknowledgement of receipt of entries
Prizes are not transferable. No cash alternative will be offered. KGL reserves the right to substitute the prizes (or any part of them) for prizes of equivalent or greater monetary value if that is necessary for reasons beyond the control of KGL.
KGL reserve the right to cancel or amend the contest, at any time without prior notice. In the event of cancellation any fees paid will be reimbursed.
